Chit chat with Joshua Briant

18 juli 2013
Hi Joshua, nice to speak to you, first of all congratulations with your award! Did you expect you would win this award ?
I was hoping that I would receive this award because I have had quite a successful year, but it still came as a surprise when I was given the award on the night.

Was there a lot of competition?
Yes, there was a lot of very tough competition for the award including Taylor Garcia, who is Junior Boys Jump World Champion, and Charlotte Wharton, who is Junior Girls Jump World Champion.

Lazy boys don’t get awards like this, how much effort you put in skiing ?
I generally try to ski four times a day for 6 days a week and I do this for about 10 months a year. It takes a lot of effort but luckily it is a lot of fun also.

It’s a very prestigious award, do you think this is your biggest accomplishment so far ?
This is the first time that I have received an award such as this, and it is a great feeling to be recognized for my achievements over the last year.

What kind of awards and titles did you win already ? and which other goals did you achieve ?
This year I was awarded the Most Outstanding Australian Junior Skier of the Year, World Junior Trick and Overall Champion, Junior Moomba Trick, Jump and Overall, I placed in the top 3 at Open Moomba Masters and at Mandurah World Cup, and I won the 2013 Australian National Trick title.

You’ve reached a big accomplishment by winning this price, have you set up any other goals for the future ?
I have World Games in July, Under 21 Worlds in September and Open Worlds in November and I am training hard to do well in all of these events.

You probably train a lot, do you even have time for school and hanging out with friends ?
It is difficult but I have to make sure that I do well in school so that I can get into a good college and follow my whatever career path I choose. I try to make time to spend with my friends whenever I am at home because I believe that this is also an important part of life.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? Will you still be skiing or do you have other dreams ?
In ten years I see myself completely finished with college and well into some professional career. I believe that I will still be skiing, but might not be able to dedicate as much time to training as I currently do.

Thanks for this interview Joshua, is there something you want to add to this interview ?
Thank you for your effort and nice talking with you, hope we can catch up again soon!
