The Omnia: behind the scene

22 june 2015
The development of a new product is always a tough job. Boatshop24 talked to our product developer Niek Huiskes to get a quick look in the kitchen of how the development of the Omnia starts. All development is done internally at us, which is one of the many aspects that makes us unique as a watersports brand. Boatshop24 asked him how the whole idea of a multi-purpose towable product started.

“It all started when ZUP called us with the question if we would like to co-create a product they were already working on. The product would be a multi-purpose towing device which was attractive to everyone. Whether you are young or old, experienced or a total beginner in water sports, this product would be fun for everybody. I was immediately interested in working together on this product which eventually would become the Jobe Omnia, as this is exactly what the whole Jobe brand stands for. Getting as many people involved in watersports by developing products that suit their needs. This was a dream becoming reality, the Jobe vision in product form.

We sat down together and looked for more ways to improve the product. First, I came up with the idea to include Wake surfing to the list of possible riding positions, which would make it a complete product that could do literally everything you want while being towed behind a boat or PWC. Adding wake surfing to this list automatically improved the product even further, as the product would now have to be molded using a different technique. Instead of the originally used rotational molding technique to produce the product, we would now have to create the product using compression molding. Compression molding is a common production technique in the wakeboarding industry in which we have a lot of experience. This experience came in handy, as we could now use this technique to create an even stronger, thinner, lighter and stiffer product which makes the board maneuverable enough to use in all watersports! A win-win situation, which I am proud of turning out the way it did. The Jobe Omnia became a product that truly embodies what Jobe stands for. I hope everybody will give the board a try in 2015 and experience the true Jobe feeling!”
